Finn's only 9 weeks old and the other day he ummm humped my friend's slipper. I redirected him... thinking maybe he was playing and got confused.
He attacks my fiance's beagle in play.. she takes it. She yelps once in a while but takes it. She is VERY submissive and I wish she'd stand up for herself even a little bit.
The other day while gnawing onher ears and face, Finn started well.. humping her head. Ok so fiance and neighbor laughed and I have to admit it was hard not to but I"m concerned isn't he awfully young to be showing this type of dominance? And that's obviously what it is... he's way too young for it to be anything but... And it upsets me he did this to my HUMAN friend's slipper.. then to the beagle.. I don't want him to be a little humper (
How can I get him to stop? Also is this a sign that he may not get along with the beagle or our cats in the future? He's so great with them now...

This is just a puppy figuring stuff out. I've seen humping behavior in 3-week old puppies.
My girl dogs hump each other. Blizzard (female) humps Lumi (male). I don't care WHAT they do out in the yard, but I don't let them do it in the house, in front of me.
Not to worry, just keep redirecting him.
The beagle will eventually let him know that he's being a pain. Most dogs allow pretty outrageous behavior from dogs younger than 4 months - it's called "puppy license". But once they begin to become adolescents, the same dogs that tolerated outrageous behavior before will start correcting the pups. "Hey you little pipsqueak, I let you get away with that when you were a baby but you're getting big now and you'd better learn some manners!!!"

I don't want him to turn into a snapper or mean to other dogs or a company humper LOL I didn't realize they did this so young.
