I didn't want to get involved at AHOC because I thought Tamara's timing and delivery were just deplorable. She may have many valid points but attacking you like that was out of line IMO.
We all have made mistakes. That doesn't make you a bad person. My first dog was from a BYB. She is my 14 year old toy poodle. I didn't know any better. I've learned and now I know better. She has been a great dog and I have no regrets but I wouldn't make that same mistake again.
One red flag that I got from your post is that a breeder "donated" dogs. My research of responsible breeders has taught me that a responsible breeder is extremely choosy about where their dogs go and would never allow anyone else to place them. It is their kennel name and their line of dogs at stake and they take that responsibility very seriously. Plus responsible breeders want their dogs back if any home they have chosen doesn't work out. They keep in contact with their buyers and are there for them with advice or support if need be. They are committed to each and every one of their dogs for the dog's entire life. I just can't imagine that any responsible breeder would donate any of their dogs.
Anyway, don't beat yourself up. Live and learn like all of us do! And enjoy that cute little pup! He looks like a cute little bear cub.
Deplorable? Attacking? Please show me where I attacked her? Actually, I made sure I walked away for a while and posted as calmly as *I* can get.
How do you suggest I redo what I did? What would *you* have done to get the point across? I didn't call names, which seems to be a BIG complaint with ACME people, I didn't put her down. I stated FACTS and Cindy STILL did not see what was wrong.
I think I put too much faith into her knowing better. That's why I got so angry. I assumed that since she was such a big part of the ACME board and read all the posts about how a lot of us bust our asses to stop back yard breeders and puppy mills, she would have looked into this place. She hears from people everyday about rescues and the wrong way to do things. Paying at least $400 for a puppy was right?
Donating purebred dogs? Come on! Someone can actually believe that? They have a website. She didn't read it? It states on several pages that they BUY at reduced prices a lot of their dogs and puppies. Even some cats. It took me all of 5 seconds to find that. After two years of looking for a puppy you would have learned by then what to look for and look out for.
If you didn't have the internet, tv, any friends or relatives that owned dogs, never been to a shelter or rescue, then *maybe* you could have your head in the sand. But, like I said, with all the converstions that she is involved in, and the rescue places she supposedly deals with, she has no excuse to have bought this dog. I don't even deal with dog rescues often and I have heard of them and their shady ways.
You learn after making a mistake once, sure, but is everyone allowed one mistake? That would make for a very happy puppy mill, wouldn't it? So, if my timing was any later, and she recommended these idiots to a friend to get a puppy from, there is another dog dead in a real shelter, isn't it? Shouldn't something be said NOW to prevent anymore of this to go on? NOW to prevent this "rescue" from selling anymore animals?
