I feel trapping a poor scared cat. It breaks my heart to see them so scared and there is more terror in store for him tomorrow. The only consolation is that at least he is in a warm room for the first time in awhile.

So you got the grey guy! Good for you. You know he'll get over it, and be much, much better for all this. Not that any of that makes you feel any better looking at him being scared.

about it today. He developed an URI overnight from being stressed, his ears are a mess and he is just generally really rough looking. So he is at the vets right now for tests and his head to toe makeover.

GC has a nice ring to it at least that is what he is listed as at the vet, since I at least didn't have one listed with that name. shelley

GC - I'm pretty sure I saw that one coming.
I always feel so bad for their terror/stress. But I figure spending the rest of their lives safe, warm, fed, and healthy is worth a couple of days of being scared.
I have a new foster baby. I think I'm going to name him Zeppole. ;D

I have a new foster baby. I think I'm going to name him Zeppole. ;D Just a guess but is he thin Well GC had an extreme makeover. When they put him under they found his mouth was full of ulcers (on the tongue even), they cleaned his ears and treated him for ear mites his blood work for liver and kidneys was good but he also had a raging bladder infection so they gave him a long acting shot of antibiotics. The bad news is he tested positive for FIV, so I guess I have some searching to do on the riskes to other cats it has been along time since I have read up on it. I am thinking treatment wise he will get colostrum and a short course of coconut oil. After the stress of being in the trap he was showing signs of conjunctivitis so it could be either herpes or calici as well. Also the vet thinks he is fairly old, I just don't understand where he could have come from. The feral female that most of mine came from was run over by a car and the last litter from her there were 4 kittens, Cocoa, Guy and Moe and one I didn't manage to get. He looks very much like Moe but that was back in 97 and I can't imagine a cat lasting that many years in our climate. shelley

I am really questioning my judgement and have to wonder if it would have been kinder to have had him PTS. Too late now but like usual I am questioning every decision I make. I think the health issues would have been easy to deal with if he wasn't feral but being feral makes it tough. 8 of the 11 cats have all been around an FIV cat before but with Chopper I didn't really have to worry too much since he didn't have any teeth.
When I went into his room this morning I couldn't see him but I could hear him snoring when I tried to find where he was hiding it woke him up and he was hissing so I just left him. He ate the a/d I had put in for him last night so I guess he is either a survivor or not too distressed.

You really, really do question every decision you make. I remember when I brought Munch home (he'd been in a cattery until he was 7 or 11 - the man didn't seem sure which cat he was giving me) he sat in the closet and hissed for days. Simon the Biting Siamese hissed for weeks, and he'd been living in someone's house as an alleged pet. GC probably will really perk up in a couple of days, now that many of his problems have been addressed and he has good food.

about it for a while but I am concerned about how to do introductions with a feral because once he is out of the room I doubt that I will get him back in. I have never really done intros before with Crash there was never an apportunity to try.

Is there any chance he could just live separately? Isn't that what you did w Crash? Not that that's any fun.

but I really hope that won't be necessary if I handle it right this time. It has been my experience that ferals will usually try to fit in and get along with other cats, Crash was the exception. The one that concerns me, and not too much, is Squirt.

Just a guess but is he thin Nope, he's a little chunky monkey. He should be a little plumper than he is, but he's a solid little guy. A zeppole is an Italian 'donut' - it's a ball of dough deep fried and dredged in confectioner's sugar. I think I might keep GC separated for a while, give him time to adjust to indoors, the other cats' smells, humans, etc., and to get healthy. Was he neutered yesterday? I'd wait a month, until his testosterone level has dropped, before I tried to integrate him. I'm sure that regular food, a comfortable environment, and the supplements you'll give him will help him feel better than he has in a long time. He feels OK to me, Shelley.

He feels OK to me, Shelley. That's good to know. I think it may take that month just to get him well enough that he can be exposed to the others. One thing is for sure he needs to relax before I can even try at this point his fright would over take him and he would be out the cat door (which I can close but not for days) living outside no matter what the temp. I need him to get to the point where he will at least be comfortable with me coming in to bring him food. P.S. Zeppole is very handsome, is he deaf? shelley
