some go in the trap thoughts tonight. My grey guy hasn't been eating for the past 2 days, he is there when I put the food out but in the morning there are only a couple bites gone and it is frozen. I imagine it will be tricky to get him if he isn't eating.

Any chance someone or something is scaring him off before he has a chance to eat? Does he run when he sees you, or could you hang out at a distance for a bit (in the ... cold) and see what he does? We always withheld food for at least 24 hours prior to trapping, but if he's eating that liltte (or eating elsewhere) that's not going to be helpful. Any chance someone else is feeding him? Why can't they all be easy?

mouth problem so I will try putting tuna or something tempting in. I really don't think anyone else is feeding him, I just can't imagine a cat that has been fed walking through snow to come and not eat.
Or maybe he was tired of waiting for me to take him in and is forcing the issue. I had planned to do it last week but then we had furnace problems that delayed my plans. His room is all set up and ready to go.

We always had pretty good luck w the Tomahawks unless you put too much newspaper in them (no more than one sheet folded), put the food in a bowl, didn't put the food all the way in the back, or unless it was in a very windy place (that could set them off.)
Does the trap seem to spring normally if you set it and press on the treadle w a pencil or something?
This always sounds so much easier than it is when you're out in the cold - and snow. Geez, snow - you weren't kidding.

We always had pretty good luck w the Tomahawks unless you put too much newspaper in them (no more than one sheet folded maybe that is what the problem was, I had put a small cat blanket I have in the bottom for him to lay on. I had wondered if it would help to put a piece of stiff cardboard in the bottom (to spread out the step zone), but I guess that is out of the question. I had kind of checked and tested it before I took it outside so I am also wondering if it is freezing abit while I have it out there. It is a bit warmer today so maybe that will help. I had a fleece blanket draped over the backso it was mostly shelted. Shelley
